My Australia Fun
Good day to everyone! Time for another update. The last week or so has been pretty busy (which is unusual for me). After realising that I didn't really have anyone around to talk to, given that my new Japanese friend had just left, I decided to splash out on a tour. So I booked a 3 day trip to Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks, photos of which can be seen in the usual place. The tour was really good. As you can see in the photos, we started by visiting some absolutely massive termite mounds. I think the biggest one was about 5 metres, which is frankly ridiculous. They grow about a metre every 10 years. Then we got the opportunity to have a snake round our neck, which I was only too eager to experience. It was very heavy and quite soft - so now you know. One of the guys tried to grab its head, which was slightly stupid. Then we went on a crocodile cruise, which was great. The guides dangle pieces of meat a couple of metres away from the boat, and the crocodiles have to jump up to grab it. Some of them are almost completely out of the water when they get the meat, it's amazing. One of them clamped its jaws about a metre away from my face, it was absolutely terrifying! The scariest noise I've ever heard. We went for a swim in a lovely pool under a waterfall as well - waterfalls were a bit of a theme on the trip! Our accommodation was a permanent tent, which was a lot more effective than a swag for keeping the mozzies away. I didn't get bitten once, but other people were absolutely covered in bites. I reckon I secrete a scent which makes me repulsive to mozzies, but irresistible to humans....
We had to get up at 5.30 the next day, which was a bit of an arse, and then we were off to Kakadu, which is (apparently) the size of Switzerland and is Australia's largest NP. Pretty much all of the 2 days there was spent hiking (some of the walks were about 4/5 km, which was pretty tough in the searing heat) and swimming in crystal clear water underneath waterfalls, which was exactly what you need after a long walk. We saw a load of Aboriginal rock art too, which was interesting, and clambered up a huge rock to give us fantastic views of the park. I was forced to make tea (chicken, veg and pasta) which worried me somewhat, but it turned out edible. The people on the tour were great as well - there were 12 of us and everyone got on. There was a Chinese guy called Jack (see photo) who was a complete legend - he'd come out with the most ridiculous things. And he loves Wayne Rooney. We all went out for some food on Friday, which was very nice. I would never have been able to do half the things we did on the tour if I did it myself, so it was worth the expense. On Satuday night, me and a couple of the Irish girls from the tour went on a 'party bus' where they force you to have fun and give you free drinks. That was pretty good. Then yesterday, I had a bit of a massive session in which I thought we were getting loads of free beer, but I ended up $140 out of pocket and my new mate getting arrested.... It's a long and complicated story, and one that I still don't fully understand myself, so I shan't go into it here!
Think I shall be having a few quiet nights to recover. And maybe, just maybe, I'll keep looking for a job!
