So have been out of range for a week or so, lots has been seen and done.
We left Franklin, after visiting the Salamanca markets (Hobart) and drinking Frank's cider. Missed going up Mt Wellington ( too misty foggy) and headed up a Jonah shortcut (not so) very scenic , we never would have seen Appfeldorf creek......... On our way to National park, we were to stay at a place, "left of field" fabulous little spot run by Adrian. He had designed a golf course (18 holes) through gardens that were a little crazy, beautiful. Their was a weir out the back road with trout , apparently the most populated river in the Southern Hemisphere. It also had platypus, Spencer said he saw one!
At night he took Spencer and dad on a tour through the glow work caves and Russell Falls , very spectacular, lots of wildlife to be seen.
Next day off to Strathgordon, the Gordon dam..... My legs went to jelly.... The boys walked out over the dam wall and saw abseilers jumping over ..... Nuts.
The drive out there was amazing through some bushfire ravaged areas. Then to "valley of the Giants" the tallest trees and a great circuit through the Styx Forest.
Home again for Adrian to light our fire pit for us- Spencer actually said that this was his favourite spot in Tassie.
Then it was off again towards Derwent bridge and off to see "the wall" Greg Duncan's astounding effort to portray Australian history. 100 Huon panels, 1 metre x 3 metres.
Stopped in Queenstown(crazy mining town) to have a spot to eat by the river.then off again towards Strahan ..... Jonah had found a place at Maquarie heads to stay..... It was like the "land of the Giants" one of the most picturesque places to camp. Stayed 3 nights, swam, fished and generally just enjoyed. Last night the rains came down, stormy, windy..... It was a nasty pack up in the morning, very wet and soggy.
Off again towards Stanley .... We took a road that jonahs 91 edition book said was a proposed road. Up towards Pieman river where we took a barge across called " the fat man" thinking of Mick. We passed 3 cars in 150 k's of slow going gravel roads. Through some devastated areas by the bushfires .
Almost got blown off " the edge of the world" viewing platform and off to fing a place in Smithton to stay. Next morning up the " nut" at Stanley, cool and windy but the view was worth it...... Did the drive around "Highfield" and town.
We are nearing our end of Tasmania but have loved it, I can see a return visit.
