The drive out to Yulara was different again, all the she- oaks ( if that's what they are)looking like statues, all very healthy. There are so many flowers out at the moment due to all the previous rains, lots of colour. Not my impression of the red centre.
Seeing Mt Conner first, I thought it was Uluru, it is a huge rock formation that I had never heard of. Then to see Uluru in the distance for the first time was pretty special, it was a true crimson red in the distance.
We ended up setting up in the campground at Yulara.
First morning up at 4:30 am to to out to Kata Tjuta (Olgas) for a sunrise viewing ( fair bit of cloud around, so not the colours we wanted to see) however that meant we were good to go to the valley of the winds walk, 7.6 k's walk up and through the Olgas. Conglomerate rocks made it a little hard under foot in places, beautiful colours and wildflowers everywhere.
Stunning..... Jonahs volleys are just hanging in there!!!!!
On the way back we stopped to view the rock from the sunset viewing area,
Magic.
Up early next day again to give the Base walk around Uluru (10.3) with Uluru
Covered with cloud. Off we head, I was struck at how many places you are not allowed to take photos. The walk was hampered in spots with water flooding the path making it like baby poo to walk in. Anyhow half way round the heavens opened up, thunder, lightening, very very frightening ( from the song) anyhow we had to scramble towards the only structure, being a fully metal information shelter, good one, "don't touch anything"
It was amazing to see the waterfalls from the rock, cascading out at angles.
It really was beautiful.
Jonah ended up having to hitch a lift from some Spanish tourists to get to the car and come and retrieve us. Then we had to help some Japanese tourists who were trapped as well.
The next day we went out to Kata Tjuta again and did the gorge walk, then went back to Uluru to see the waterhole ( my favourite spot of all , very special)and the gprge walk. We then went off to the Cultural centre for a wander round.
The next phase of our trip was to be to get to Lamberts Centre, the geographical centre of Aust. One of our tick off things to do. Anyway we did the drive nearly to the border to Kulgera roadhouse (20 k's from the border)
Only to find the road closed , more baby poo apparently. Major disappointment, we decide to go back to Alice via the Stuart Hwy.
