We are now at Barkly Homestead, after a 380 km drive, 200 of which was pretty much, nothingsville.
We left Mataranka and drove to Roper Bar, where we got the most expensive fuel thus far, at $2.20 per litre.
We continued on to a area called Tomato island in the Limmen National Park, on the Roper river, croc city. It was a camp used by fishermen usually, but the Barra are not biting.Fabulous new ammenities with a great hot shower ( it's the little things).
Although we were warned about cane toads and to keep the dog in check.
Next morning up and off towards the Southern Lost City. We drove in and had a look at Butterfly Springs, quite beautiful, but the boys said they would be a bit wary having a swim there( there were some people in when we got there).
Back in the car to the lost city, what a find that was, absolutely incredible. Pillars of rock, defying gravity. The walk through and around was something else.
The camp was particularly quiet and serene, with only a couple of others enjoying it as well.
The next morning the boys walked back through it at dawn and spotted the short eared rock wallaby, up very close, I think it frightened the living daylights out of them at first.
Off again ( after helping out others with some unleaded petrol) and off towards Heatbreak Hotel, Cape Crawford. We actually drove through country that looked like in many, many years to come it would be more lost cities.
Cape Crawford was a little oasis of green. We got a powered site and went for a swim in the pool, shake off some dust.
Toilet blocks, were Priscilla and Elvis, only out here.
Next day was at least all on tarred roads, but this was where the nothingness came in. Jonah went to pull over, and Spencer said "what are you stopping for?" .......
"To get a photo of that sign" .
Onwards to Barkly Homestead, where we got reception, so I could say " happy birthday Rob", and have a swim. All the travellers working here brought their inflatable toys( huge things) to the smallish pool, needless to say there were lots laughs. moving on towards the" Devils marbles "
