We all woke and some decided to try the breakfast before getting ready for the taxi ride to the airport. Fortunately, this time there was no dramas, just funny sights along the way. We arrived at the airport in good time and paid the driver. Amazingly, this trip back worked out as £6 but our journey including the crach was nearly £40. I guess that's another lesson learnt.
The flight on Vietnam Airway to Hanoi was scheduled to leave at 13.00, this giving us all time to relax before the flight with a beer or three to steady the nerves. Dave was flicking through an English written news paper, the Siagon Times, and noticed a big article about our chosen airline's insurance. Apparently, they are worth so many million dollars. With everything that has happened with a certain flight off the Vietnam coast and our own troubles previously, this wasn't very comforting
From taking off to landing and getting to the hotel was very uneventful...thank God. At the airport the price was negotiated for the mini bus to the hotel which worked out to be £17 for 10 mile trip. This time we were on it and making sure we weren't going to get done, having been ripped off in HCMC. Something that appears to be the norm from speaking with other westerners in our hotel.
Anyway, after about 45 mins passing through some dull scenery and familiar work landmarks...well to me anyway, we arrived in the centre of Hanoi. To be honest, we were all looking at each other thinking, what a dump. But the boy Dave came up trumps again. The Tirant Hotel is really nice but not as plush as the one we left behind in HCMC. Here is where we met up with Bryan and Kann, now the party is complete.
After checking in, a quick wash, change and then out to see what we can find to eat and drink for a ridiculously low price. Yep, it wasn't hard. We ended up at a place that the world famous Utube sensation Geoff Carter recommended. Here we were all fed and watered for around £15 per couple, and large bottles of Tiger Beer, just over a quid........bonkers
Back to the hotel for more Tiger Beers and bed. Tomorrow is a new day with new adventures.
