It's time to say goodbye to my group as i head off to the airport, I given myself plenty of time just in case. Feeling pretty organised, I say a tearful farewell and head off. The airport is jam packed - no surprise there! I shove my way through the confusion, queue to get into the airport, queue to get my bag checked, then queue at the check in desk - there's lots of queueing yu may have noticed. I lug my bulging rucksack onto the weighing scales, and present my boarding card, blathering on about wether I need to put my 200ml suncream in the big bag; but as I rattle on, he casually looks up & says, "sorry, there are no flights to Cochin tonight". "but there must be, I have a ticket", "You may have a ticket, but there certainly is no flight, that one is cancelled, you will have to get the one tomorrow morning.
Now my name may be Riley, but so far, I've certainly not had the luck of the Irish, but this just tops the biscuit. My next tour starts tomorrow, I have nowhere to stay tonight, I feel ill, and I don't even know if there's space on the plane tomorrow. I'm feeling very sorry for myself, you can probably tell. I head to the Jet-Lite desk, oh and what a surprise - it's closed, nooooooo!!
I spot a movement in the back office, and seize my opportunity whining like the big girl's blouse that I am. She takes pity on me, but in true indian bureaucratic style, I now have to go to another office and speak to another person. At that office I'm told to wait for someone else, and just as I'm about to explode, and do a 'Falling Down' scenario, they finally sort me a ticket for the next day. Intrepid my tour company were great and arranged the hotel for me, and I got to see all the crew off the tour again who were still at the hotel - happy days.
You'll be pleased to know that after a 3 hour delay the next morning, I finally make it to South India, and the land of coconuts awaits!!
