From the Fort we went to Jaipur where we had two days. We transferred by jeep, as we were heading to one of the main roads we had to pass through a village and found ourselves in a traffic jam. But this was no ordinary traffic jam, there were our two jeeps, a bus, a camel with a cart, a donkey, a couple of cows and several motorbikes. Not an everyday traffic jam!
On the way we stopped off at the Amber Palace, which was the former capital of the Rajasthan state. It was set up on a hill and was a bit of a climb up, there were elephants available to take you up but walked. The Palace is part of a huge Fort.
The following day we were free to do what we wanted so headed to the Palace of Winds which was amazing, although the front was covered in scaffolding. Then we went to the Observatory, which is home to the largest sun dial (accurate to within 2 seconds). We then went to the City Palace, which seemed very over rated.
The Observatory was by the far the most impressive part. It was amazing that someone could use the sun and the moon to build all these devices which were used to tell the time, track stars and predict eclipses so many years ago. Fortunately we hired a guide to explain everything to us, without him wouldn't have had a clue what anything did!
Later than day we visited an NGO where street children and children forced into the sex industry can escape to in order to get an education. The children were really happy to see us and showed us how they made jewelry. Once again they loved to have their picture taken with us.
That night we went to see a Bollywood movie. The film was all in Hindu but was surprisingly easy to follow. It was incredibly cheesy but great! We all came out sing the main song from it! It's definitely an experience you have to try when in India, and it even had an interval.
