We headed to a small village the next day (so small I haven't been able to find it on the map!)where we were staying in a old Fort which had been converted into a hotel. We were greeted by women who put a bindi on a head and gave us a flower garland. The place was amazing and somewhere you would never have found had you not been on the tour -http://www.nivalink.com/fortmadhogarh/index.html- it was very traditional and so peaceful compared to the places we had been so far.
We had a few hours to rest and then had a walk around the local village. It was very small with few shops. They still practiced traditional crafts such as jewelry making and pottery. The children were incredibly excited to see us and loved having their picture taken. They would all come up and shout "one picture, one picture" when they saw you had a camera. Then they would rush up to you once you had taken it to have a look. At one point they were pushing and shoving each other to try and get in the picture! I ended up with so many that I had to delete a lot of them. That evening we had a meal in the courtyard and some of the people from the village came and played music while the waiters danced. They tried to get some of us up to dance with them but there was no way any of us could dance like that!! The courtyard was lit with candle and fire torches, it was amazing. We then went up to the top of one of the rotundas to look at the stars.
Although this was a fantastic place I had a couple of nasty encounters. The first was after I had had my shower, Sarah, the girl I was sharing a room with went for hers. When she had finished she came out and asked if I had noticed anything in the water, me being blind and not paying attention hadn't noticed anything but she had found small lava in the water! This obviously made me feel disgusting. We got our tour leader to come and have a look to see what they were, apparently as the water came from a tank it was something that was living in there. We were told that they were harmless but needless to say I didn't have another shower!
Then while we were eating dinner one of the girls spotted something out of the corner of her eye, she thought it was either a gecko or a large spider. Yes it turned out to be a large spider. I spent the rest of the evening with my feet up on the chair!! Fortunately this is the only one I've seen so far but I'm sure I'll encounter many more.
