Korean Food - Let's face it, I am not an adventurous eater, some might say a little stuck in my ways when it comes to food...however, I'm proud to say I have embraced Korean cuisine and more or less consumed everything put in front of me...and liked it! I've eaten: kimchi (fermented cabbage or radish), octupus, dried fish, rib stew, rice cake, tofu...granted, some things I've skipped, like cold seaweed soup and squid.
I haven't felt hungry very often and enjoyed trying new things, but I have to say that eating in Korea is exhausting! First, there's a hundred plates on the table and you have to choose what you're going to eat at every bite...then, you more or less cook or put together everything yourself...and chopsticks! It takes a lot of energy to get the food from the plate to your mouth...don't get me wrong...you probably eat less and burn calories a the same time, but it's quite a change from American cuisine.
And, of coure, I'm a little put off by all the food that gets wasted...they bring you all the side dishes regardless...and it's not like bread at an Italian restaurant or chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant...many go untouched and Koreans have no problem leaving lots of food on the table when they leave.
But, the meals are very social and communal...it just takes some getting used to and I may miss sitting down to Kuma's burger and fries:)
