Day 1: Saying goodbye to my family was hard. It was like I was going away forever. I kept thinking that this wasnt real, and that I was not actually going to a different country by myself with strangers I have never met. But it was not that bad. Going through security and to my gate was pretty standard: waiting in line, having to wait longer because someone had liquids in their bags (like they dont know the rules already), having to wait longer because people forget to take their laptops out and question why they have to. But once I got to the gate and met a couple of my classmates, I got really excited. I was going to a new country to study abroad, learn their culture, their city and just be able to explore and have a good time. It was a relief to find other people that were heading to our program as well, so we ended up becoming travel buddies.
The plane ride was doable. Despite the fact I only slept 2 hours, it could have been worse. I am actually glad I gave up my original seat since I was upgraded (for free) for extra leg room, so that was nice. The couple that was sitting next to me had trouble with their touch screen tvs that were in front of them, so they asked if I could possibly move to another seat so they can just scoot in since they didnt want to separate (I know). But since the attendant to me that I could sit in a seat with leg room, I was like, okay, I know I should take that offer because I know being in tight space would be awful for 11 hours. And on the bright side, I was able to sit with two of the people who were on my program, so I was able to bond with them.
Once we arrived at Arlanda airport in Stockholm, we were all relieved. I was relieved. Finally being able to stand up. We got our tickets for the Arlanda express and took the subway to central Stockholm, which we passed by many restaurants that looked soo good, an Icebar I want to go to so bad, and many, many people. It was 3 oclock in the afternoon so there was tons of people just hanging out in downtown Stockholm. Our walk to our hotel was long, but it was nice to see the city. But I was done with my huge backpack lol.
Once we got to the hotel, I was in shock. Its on a boat in a dock and its just amazing. I love it. The view is amazing. My room has the perfect view. And the people in my program are the best. I am really excited to start this program, and explore and experience the best food, pubs, and architecture in Stockholm!
