I am marking this as the start of Year Two of our European tour in Germany. Technically, year two doesn't being until January 5th, but since we will be taking PCS before January 2014 and not coming back, I am marking year two from Jan 2012 - Jan 2013.
Our first excursion of the year was a nearby one, focusing on Maddox. He has been in a dinosaur stage and we heard of a dino museum about an hour and a half away: Gondwana Das Praehistoruim, Germany's very own little Jurassic Park. It's located in a little town a few miles past Landstuhl. Maddox fell asleep on the way and was not thrilled to be dragged out of the car into the cold, wet parking lot. However, as soon as he saw the dinosaur bones that were in front of the building his eyes lit up and he started running to the door, yelling "Dinosaur! C'mon! Dinosaur!"
The tour was interesting, but I think he was a little young to go through it. Ben and I wanted to go through and listen to all of the displays translations, but the boys just didn't have the patience. He loved looking at all of the fossils and the displays were very realistic. Unfortunately, the T-Rex display was a little too realistic for him. He was eating a Triceratops, with pieces of meat hanging from his mouth, and every few minutes he would let out a ferocious "ROAR!" Maddox was scared out of his wits and refused to walk anywhere near the display. We had to go past it to get out, so Ben ended up picking him up and speeding past T-Rex.
We left the exhibit after looking at a snake and Maddox picked out an outrageously priced toy dinosaur as a souvenir. We made a brief stop in Ramstein and headed home. When we got home Maddox proceeded to call Grandma and Papa and tell them all about how the dinosaurs scared him (but he was still happy.)
Honestly, I think we would have done better by saving our 30 euro and paying 7 euro to skip the exhibits and go to the kids play room. Kids under 5 are really too young for it, but, there was no way to know without trying it first.
