The boys have been very in to Legos at daycare, so Ben and I decided to take them to Legoland this weekend. The drive was kind of long, it took us a little over two hours, but their faces lighting up with joy was worth it.
After dodging children and parents with fanny packs, we pulled into the smallest parking space in our European experience thus far. We were literally packed like sardines. We got the stoller and pulled the boys out without even opening the car door a quarter of the way it is supposed to, then headed to the park.
I had forgotten to pack sunscreen or hats for the boys and with their new hairdo's I was worried they would burn their scalps. So, while Ben took them to "Ninja-land" I stopped in a gift shop with plans to buy some cute Legoland hats I spotted on the way in. That is, until I looked at the price: 15 euro for a child hat! Are you crazy! I quickly scoured the store and bought the cheapest hat I could find. Good thing, too, because they didn't want to wear them half the time.
In the center of the park are huge models of famous European cities. There was a model of Berlin, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and the boys' favorite, Venice. All of these cities are made out of thousands of tiny legos. They could have stayed there all day and watched the little gondolas and boats float down the river. There was a special Star Wars display area as well and Maddox liked to push the button to smash the bad guy robots.
Maddox and I went on a Lego Safari with zebras, elephants, gorillas, and lions. Later, both of the boys went canoeing in a river around dinosaur island. The boys had fun and we left the park with Maddox happily eating ice cream....that eventually melted all over the car.
