As I didnt have enough time to do any activities whilst I was in La Fortuna owing to limited time, I arrange to combine my passion with my purpose and arrange transport for La Fortuna to Monteverde via horseback-UNREAL!!! Not only do I get from A to B but Im get there by horseback-how amazing is that, and all for $35 (20 pounds)!!!
The taxi picked us up from the hostel, oh yer before I forget the hostel I stayed at cost me, get this, only $3 (1.75 pounds) for a night in a shared dorm with 7 others and it as so nice, clean and comfy-unbelievable!! Sorry, back to the story. So the taxi picked us up early to take us to the boat in which we took across the beautiful, clear, calm Arenal lake to where the horses were waiting to take us over the mountain to Monteverde. A group of 8 other fellow travellers and myself mounted the horses and set off on a 2 hour horseback ride along the side of lake Arenal and through the forestry and along the side of the the mountain to arrive in a small village alongside Monteverde where we were met by another taxi that took us to our accommadation, in which we all stayed together as we had such a laugh on the journey that we all spent the next 2 days together, and had wicked time.
As we arrived early at Monteverde, we all decided to make to most of the time we had there and make the most of the cloud forest and went on a canopy tour, which involves zipping from one tree to another via a zip line cable high up in the trees, across vast distances, at high speed via a harness. SO COOL!!! Such an adrenaline rush and the scenery was awesome (esp the cable technicians).
After a FAB day zipping hundreds of feet in the air, across vast distances, held on by just a harness, over a awesome cloud forest, we spent the night the only way fit, in the local pub, drinking mass amounts of local spirts and dancing like crazy people. Ended up having a tasty indian that night, yum, yum, aye aye!!!
As we had discovered Monteverde via sky, via zip lines, a few of us decided to discover Monteverde via the road. Thus despite the hangover from hell we hired ATV (quad bikes) and speed around the dirt tracks, mountain tracks, and roads. With the wind in our hair we were soon over our hangovers. Again, it was an awesone day.
Monteverde is such a wonderous place with so much natural beauty, its a must see. So all in all a big thumbs up for Monteverde!!!
