An early start today to catch the public bus (wierdly our first). 7hours later after a couple of stops and a reasonable border crossing we were in Phnom Penh. We did have a fabulous moment crossing a river at the border on a ferry. People who were travelling with Intrepid (our company) were asked to get off the bus. We were all handed the brightest orange life jacket I have ever seen and told to wait among the motorbikes and foot passengers. Everyone else stayed on the bus as it drove onto a ferry that wasn't too far off a CalMac ferry :-/ We did look ridiculous and you could see the locals thought so too. We didn't even make it on to the ferry with our bus because it was full so we had to run to another ferry. It was announced on the sound system that the 'swimmers' could board and it turned out we were the only ones on the ferry. Considering the other forms of transport we have been on it seems a bit silly to have life jackets on a proper car ferry but at least we were entertaining :D
Not much time for site seeing but we managed a cyclo tour round the major points and walked past the Royal Palace before dinner. On the cyclo tour Cambodia decided we should get a wee taste of the monsoon and it poured! Not so great when you are sitting with nowhere to go lol. Soaked to the skin but all I could do was laugh :D
We wandered past the Royal Palace after that and along by the river before dinner and bed. Such lightweights :-/
