A free day today and we all decided to head to the Royal Palace. It was very glittery and gold. Lots more info about the present King who lives there (although he wasn't home), The King's staff have fabulous outfits that they still wear today with a different colour for each day. There was also a temple with a floor made of silver and a very sparkly statue made with hundreds of diamonds. It was extremely hot again too! :-/
We weren't fit for much after our tour so most of us skipped the museum and went for lunch. We have been to a few restaurants run by charity organisations who train vulnerable young people to give them a trade. We had lunch in one of them and it was delicious I shared and had two dishes that were the best of the trip Sweet potato spring rolls with a very tasty salad and bean curd Amok (Cambodian curry) Yum :)
The afternoon we did the harrowing stuff. The genocide museum at one of the Khmer Rouge's prisons and then the Killing Fields. Interesting to see but horrible to hear about.
That night we had cocktails in the Foreign Correspondents Club, which was used in the Killing Fields film, and then dinner at another charity restaurant. More good food, Cambodian tapas this time :)
