I automatically fell in love with Arequipa so decided it would be the perfect place to continue on my Spanish learning quest! That evening being Saturday we hit the town! Got some dinner and before heading to a Bar to get 3 pisco sours for 12 soles- about £3 and 3 litre beers for 20 soles- bargain and a good start to the night! We then ended up in a Swedish bar with a Peruvian band playing covers of all the classic rock songs! We met a few more people here and ended up in a bar called frogs- pretty good as there were not many other gringos around and we were able to have a bit of a dance!
The next day I started my Spanish lessons so the socialising and doing things dwindled slightly but throughout the week the Spanish lessons were amazing. They really went over the basics which was exactly what I needed to build up my confidence!
During the week I did go white water rafting one morning- really good fun it was just over far too quickly! I also had a horse riding trip which was an interesting experience! A man collected me from the hostel and we caught a taxi to his house, at this point I was trying to hide my valuables just in case I got mugged but it was fine! We got on the horses and my epic rude through some stunning valleys turned out to be a gentle trot through an average village. It was ok but I definitely would not recommend it! My second from last night in Arequipa we went for a posh meal. Had cerviche to start which is a raw fish dish in chilli, garlic and lemon dressing which was ok but the fish was not great! Followed by a nice rare alpaca steak which was lovely, would prefer a beef steak from argentina but it is half the fat which makes it pretty darn good!
