Day one of the trek and we got picked up at about 7am! Really happy as I actually have a great group of loads of nationalities and fun people! The first day was all downhill mountain biking which I was pretty nervous about after death road but the road was smooth and I managed to stay in the top 4 fastest! Still quite dangerous with steep cliff drops but no-one had any accidents! That afternoon we went white water rafting which was even more fun that in Arequipa as there were more people in the raft and the guide was a lot more fun! The water was freezing but luckily we didn't capsize at all and just had a few cold splashes of water instead! That night we carried on with our very nutritionally high meals of rice and chips with meat but it does the job! We then went to the only bar in the village and had a free shot of some spirit with a snake in it followed by a cocktail and a game of UNO!
The next day we had another early start and had a day of trekking! It was quite a uphill, downhill and flat walking day! We walked for about 6/7 hours and it ended up being a bit tougher than I had expected but there were beautiful views! We were treated at the end with a well deserved dip in the hot springs that were very relaxing! That evening everyone decided to go out a party a bit but I didn't last long as I didn't want to risk ruining the next day for myself!
The next day we started the day with zip lining which was so much fun!!! Was quite scary but awesome! We did four long zip lines above the jungle trees and the river and finally repelled back down to ground level of which I screamed the whole way down!!!
We then had lunch and a bit of a snooze in the hammocks before having another trek but today was flat :)
We walked along the railway surrounded by the mountains and the river! We also got our first glimpse of machu picchu! In aguas calientes we had twin rooms with hot showers which was great. We went out for one last dinner altogether followed by chocolate cake and a really early night!
We had to get up super early at 4am and not being a morning person this was incredibly difficult! We then walked up to machu picchu which was about 2000 steps and really hard work but totally worth it! I had been worried that machu picchu wouldn't live up to its reputation but it totally exceeded it! There are no words to describe how amazing it actually is. I went off by myself after the two hour tour so I could really appreciate it! Walked up to the sun gate to get a distant view looking down on machu picchu and seeing the winding road- really spectacular! I spent the rest of the day walking around the site and admiring! That afternoon I walked back down the stairs and we had a well deserved pizza and more chocolate cake :). Great day on an absolutely fantastic trip!!!!
