Had a boring night last night as everyone in this hostel seems to be brazilian and in a group and my Portuguese is pretty much non existent!
First day and I decided to rent a bike and cycle to balneario municipal. Was about 7km so quite a nice ride and it was overcast so didn't feel the heat too much! Got there and it was lovely. Really clear water with loads of massive fish! However the tranquility was slightly ruined due to the blaring music from a cafe and the small children! Had a bit of a dip and read my book! Also now we are out of rio everyone is really fat, think it is due to all the fried food. Even vegetables are deep fat fried! When i was having lunch i got stung by a wasp to join my many mosquito bites.... Ow! Cycled back and it started raining and I almost couldn't walk when I jumped off my bike at the hostel!
Was waiting for the girls to arrive at the hostel and one of them arrived to say they has booked into another hostel Sony packed up my stuff and went with them! Nice to see friendly faces again and it was the whole Santa Clara family! We went out for dinner and hit a couple of large meals for 2 and has some beef and fish which was pretty tasty! Then headed back and called it a night!
The next day we went to rio da prata which has some amazing snorkelling. You go down this crystal clear river with your snorkel masks and you are not even allowed to kick in order to keep the clarity! Was really amazing some big fish and some little ones which tried to help me out by eating my peeling skin on my legs! After we had a great big lunch- not realising it was 4 already I ate a massive amount but we also had a BBQ later. After getting back we went to the main strip to buy ingredients for caiprianhas and I thought I would be an expert and try and make them- bad idea it taste awful so one of the guys had to try and save it for us! Ended up getting quite drunk and one of the girls was trying to do flips in the garden with no success! Ended up getting to bed at 3am which was not a good idea as we had to be up at 7 to see the caves!
We all managed to get up but it took a lot of effort as feeling very tired but we did it! We went to two caves- the first one Sao Miguel was all about the rock formations with stalactites and stalagmites and corral rock! Was pretty cool but nothing in comparison to gruta do lago azul! We walked down about 295 rock steps down to this perfect bright blue water it was really amazing!
We went back and got an amazing lunch at this local place where they BBQ sirloin steaks and we has rice, beans, salsa and manioc- was the best meal yet in brazil and including a drink only came to £4! As we were all exhausted we just went back to the hostel and had a nap!
