So I drank too many caiprianhas last night with a guy from the hostel! He taught me how to make a good caiprianha and we ended up drinking a bottle and a bit!
The next morning I woke up and surprisingly the head was not too bad! Got in the mini bus to go to the pantanal! About a 5 hours journey with a quick stop for lunch which I ended up getting for free because they did something wrong with the card!
Made it too a transit point and we have to transfer over to a jeep! Was with two Danish girls and a couple from Germany!
One and a half hours later we made it to camp! I had opted to camp rather than stay in the dorm so I got banished down the far end! Got there and it was just me, a ginger cat and a man who could speak no English! Has visions of myself trying to play volley ball alone or getting eaten by a caiman so decides to upgrade to a dorm! Thank god I did! There were lots more people, cold drinking water a swimming pool and life felt good again! It was awesome there as there are parrots and toucans and pigs! We spent the afternoon lazing around swimming and playing volley ball before getting an early night due to a 6.30 start!
Woke up nice and early and has a hearty breakfast before setting out for some horse rising! Was quite scared so I picked the little horse as there was a smaller distance to fall! So we all set off at a nice slow pace! I chose a bit of a dud horse that kept stopping to eat so or guide swapped with me and suddenly I was on the tallest horse there! It was such fun, quite slow paced but I got the horse to run every now and again! Has a great time and really want to go horse riding again soon! The guy who looks after the horses kept speaking to me in Portuguese I think he thought it was hilarious I has no idea what he was saying!
We got back ready for a swim before lunch and to cool down as it was really hot and there were a lot of Mosquitos around! After lunch it was just some more chilling in a hammock until the boat trip that afternoon!
Boat trip was literally the best thing ever! We set off down the river to firstly spot howler monkeys in the trees! Carried on and found the worlds largest rodent, I forget what they are called but they are very cute! It the statues to rain really heavily for about 20 minutes but was awesome going along the pantanal river in the rain and it also caused a full rainbow! A little later we found a caiman on the river bank and we got quite close staring at it when we suddenly moved at the speed of lightening at us and into the water! We all screamed and it was amazing the boat didn't capsized! Carrying on we pulled up on the river bank incase anyone wanted to swim (no one did after seeing all the caiman) and found a fresh jaguar footprint! All really excited we were taking pictures of it when we heard him in the background! We gig back on the boat and went back up the river and there he was a jaguar right in front of us! It was amazing, I hasn't even hoped to see one as it is quite rare and one of the guides said he hadn't seen one since December! He went out of site and we stayed very quiet hoping to get another glimpse but instead all the giant rodent things jumped into the water in a massive panic and started swimming across- again truly awesome to see! It was then getting dark so we have to head back after seeing an amazingly beautiful sunset the sky filled with so many stars it was unbelievable and bats swooped around us on our journey back! On the way back we had a flash light looking for wildlife and managed to see an armadillo!
We were so lucky the other groups only saw birds and caiman! That night we just chilled and played some pool and cards and saw a family of raccoons break in!
The next morning we had a bush walk! I was dreading this as I heard there are only Mosquitos and there pretty much was. Would of been lovely as we saw different parrots etc but there were so many Mosquitos I just couldn't enjoy it! Went back to camp and tried to find out if I could spend one more night but they wanted to charge me a fortune so I has to decline and head on my way to bonito!
