This is Hermanus. So far, this is my favorite city in South Africa. I have come here just about every trip to South Africa, and each time I'm amazed at how beautiful it is. I have a house picked out for me here. (I didn't take a photo this time.) Last time I came it was for sale, but it was definitely not in my financial plan. They have turned it into a guest house, so if I'm lucky I'll be able to stay there sometime.
There are few places that you can sit on the shore and watch whales without looking through binoculars. Hermanus is one of those places. I came up here with 2 housemates from Sweden- Kim and Therese, and Kim's new boyfriend, Smokey. We took the beach drive to Hermanus, and returned home through the mountains. I'll have to get photos of the mountains as well, it's all very hard to describe with words.
In the photo album you will see a lot of pictures of Dassies. If you can believe it, they are related closely with elephants. (I can't really see the resemblance, but we saw these at Cape Point as well, and we had a mammalogist in the group that pointed it out right away. (Did you read the tour books Harry? Just wondering.)
Anyway, the Dassies deserve a blog all to their own, so I'll write more about them later. I even have some video for you.
I'm off for now, but will write again soon. I do have some photos of where I work and the students at UWC, and I'll get to that too. I wanted to share my most recent adventures!
Keep Well!
