V.I.P. nightbus where we watched Gremlins 2 and although Lucy fell asleep Alex bonded with a couple of Swiss guys and a brummie English chap over their shared love of Gizmo...the nice Gremlin, also a cameo appearance from Hulk Hogan really added to the enjoyment of the bus ride and woke lucy up with the audience screaming at Hulky! Arrived at border and got the visas sorted at sunrise over the Mekong River, very pretty! Then arrived in Vientianne, the capital of Laos with a population of 200,000 and not a tower block in sight. Went for a traditional Lo massage, very relaxing, given to us by a couple of ladyboys that really took quite a liking to Lucy's shade of nail varnish. Had gorgoeus couple of freshly made drinks at the house of fruitshakes which was recommended to us by a South African guy who lives in Laos. A nice break from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok with the LAos people a more relaxed and friendly bunch.
Watched the sunset over the river...Jess you'll understand this but it was 'an amazing view', said in Lucy's favourite geek voice! Alex enjoyed a Lao Beer or two for 30p for a large bottle and met up with our Swiss pals for dinner and bearing in mind that everything in Laos closes at 11 we managed to stay out til 1 o'clock by finding a traditional English pub that serves pork pies and Branston Pickle hehe! Fun times! Back to our friendly Orchid guest house by the river with an early start for the bus to Vang Vieng.
