So, this was the day! Would I be leaving Airlie today or staying for at least 2 weeks? Lugged my bags to reception, got my food from the fridge, checked out and walked down to the bus stop. the driver was there and I said who I was and he said there were 3 free seats! Everyone else was on the bus so before I knew it we were driving away from Airlie. Had loved my time there but did feel like I was ready to go so felt okay :-) The girl I at next to was pretty rude and grumpy, but I had to remember I had one evil monster eye so probably wasn't the most approachable person to talk to anyway! It was looking really bad so I was feeling self conscious. Stopped off at a petrol station where I got ut to stretch my legs then carried on. Managed to sleep for a little bit on the bus which was good as I was still sleepy! Getting way less sleep out here than I do in England, what with nights out, early starts and living in dorms. We got to Townsvillie, the gateway to Magnetic Island, my next stop on my Oz Experience! Magnetic Island is a popular holiday destination as its full of beautiful bays and had the most hours of sunshine in Oz! Got on to the ferry, didn't really find anyone to talk to. There was one group of girls who were pretty closed off and everyone else was scattered around the ferry. I dumped my stuff and the driver of the Oz bus, who stops off at Magnetic with us spoke to me. Asked what was wrong with my eye! He seemed pretty scatty but was nice. His name was Disco! Love how all the Oz drivers have nicknames, didn't ask why it was disco... haha! Headed upstairs to get a good view, it was an absolutely perfect day. Clear blue skys, sunny, clear - was a really nice ferry ride. Got to wear my sunnies, perfect disguise for the monster eye! Sat down on the top of the Ferry and got chatting to two really nice girls from Canada. Spoke to them for the 15 min journey across to the island - shame they weren't going to my hostel! Said bye to them when we got off the ferry and got on the bus to the hostel. It was a Base, and it was so, so nice. Like a holiday resort, couldnt have been much better. Reception, big open bar, balcony with steps on to the stunning deserted beach of Nelly Bay, a pool, a grass area with hammocks, kitchen, bathrooms........ and the perfect weather to top it off! If this pleace was in Spain or somewhere you'd pay a lot for it!! Checked in and went to the room, which wasn't as great, pretty cramped but I didnt mind as I didn't plan to spend much time in there!! In my room were two girls from Cardiff called Rhian and Susie. There was also a German guy called Torben, another guy I never really spoke to and there were 2 other beds being used but no one else was in the room at that point. I asked Rhian and Susie what they were going to doa dn they said they were going to lay on the beach, which sounded perfect to me, so I went and sat with Susie on the beautiful beach then Rhian joined us a bit later on. I read my book and felt glad to be out of Airlie. had missed the beach! Was really relaxing and we all fell asleep! We woke up and walked to the supermarket - it took about 15 mins either way which was tiring in the heat but got a few things for dinner that night. When we got back the girls went on the computer - i did the same but wished I'd have enjoyed the sunshine before it went down! by the time we got off the comps it was getting chilly, so I had my shower and got changed. Met the two other girls in the room, Lex and Beth, two girls from Jersey in the USA who were travelling together. They had been there a night already and had rented a topless car for the day! I had seen them on the bus to the hostel, they are proper Barbie cars, pink, topless, tiny..... so cute!!! They said they had to take it back the next morning and asked if I could come for the ride, they said I could!! So that was awesome. I went to the kitchen and made myself pasta - the others were all eating at the bar but I was still being good! - and it was really, really yummy! Dont know what I did differently but it was good! Then joined the other girls at the bar as it was time for boozy bingo! Was $5 each for 3 sheets and there were 4 rounds on each sheet. Each round had a different prize - 1 = free jug, 2 = steal deal package (accomodation, food, snorkle hire), 3 = free room upgrade worth $120, 4 = all the money from the pot! There were lots of people playing and the prize fund was $222! There were rules for different numbers, like if 13 or 69 comes up you shout "lucky for some", if 16 came up you had to kiss someone, if 9 came up you shout "nein nein nein nein" and hit the tables loudly, anytime it was a whole number you all have to drink ....there were loads of different rules and the first of best person to each thing got a shot! There was one guy who was crazy and was doing everything, must have had at least 15 shots during the game! I got one for being the first to shout lucky for some at 13, woo! It was yummy, too! The game went on for ages.... was good fun but Id didn't win anything! Like always in Bingo (not that I've played a lot) you are always so sure you are going to win when you only have a few left, but really everybody only has a few left! Disco was the "bingo assistant" and he was SOO drunk and absolutely mental, he was crazy! Running around on tables, doing crazy stuff, shouting, dancing (there's the explanation of "disco"!) - glad I wasn't getting on his bus the next day! Kex won the room upgrade which was cool! She got upgraded to the best room, a double en-suite with a balcony onto the beach! So she and Beth moved out of our dorm for the night to stay there, was soo jelouse! I eneded a good nights sleep and some rest for my eye! After the bingo we finished our drinks then a lot of people left the bar. I was sooo tired so left too, snuggled up in bed and fell asleep quicker than ever before! Slept soo well though :-)
