Both were tired this morning, so snoozed the alarms a few times before getting up & ready.
Despite the slow start, we ended up on the mountain & ready to go by 9:40 am.
The weather, while quite windy, was the best so far. It was clear and sunny most of the day. There was a warning that they may put the lifts on standby in the arvo due to wind - but while windy, this never eventuated, so we could go all day.
At 11 am, we decided to have our hot chocolate/coffee & chips early, we could actually see the café this time!
Following our break, we took to racing down some of the slopes. I can keep up with Ethan on the smoother slopes; however, I fall well behind when it gets all chopped up/bumpy/"mogully". We had a few good runs down an intermediate slope chasing each other & finding a new path (at times reaching 52 kmph…).
On one run, Ethan fell & his ski broke (about halfway down the south side of the mountain); we were worried we would have to walk to the bottom - catch the lift to the top, and then walk the very long main run back to the ski hire… but eventually, we're able to get it to clip in so we managed to ski back.
This was certainly an advantage of hiring on the mountain - we could swap it out. Fortunately, they deemed it a fault with the ski (which it really was, given it's the same mounting as the one I had & can cope with my weight falling on it), so they just swapped it over for us.
By the arvo, the snow at the top was great to ski in & there were short cues on the lifts. We did a lot of runs down the main slope (which is very wide) together. This was great fun.
The 5 days of skiing was a good amount of time. We're both looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. Although when asked. Ethan would have liked to go for 7 days! That said, a rest day in the middle would be good (however, it's not really how the system works - i.e. you get a discount if buying multiple consecutive days - but not if you separate them. Also means hiring skies for another day, more accommodation, etc…).
My ski pants & gloves just held out. The pants are falling apart at the top, but I got through the day & the gloves are starting to fall apart.
On finishing up, we returned our gear to the ski rental place at the top of the mountain; however, we had omitted to bring our shoes up. Confirmed we could keep the boots on & return them to the ski hire next to the car park. So we caught the shuttle bus down, only to discover it was closed. Also, Ethan had not brought any shoes. So we needed to catch the shuttle back up the mountain & return the boots to the same place we had returned the skis. As Ethan didn't have any shoes, I needed to carry him on my shoulders over the snow.
On the shuttle bus back up, Someone exiting the bus gave Ethan a "goo go gaga" look and rubbed his face… then shook his hand… it was very odd… He seemed well-intentioned… Ethan wasn't wearing a helmet or goggles at the time, so he very much looked his age…
Went into town and had planned on getting burgers given it was late by the time we finally got everything sorted. We ended up skipping our way through town, doing races, etc. Ethan found a piece of what he thought was glass on the ground, but we put it to the side of the path as there was no bin around.
Ended up getting lasagna from IGA instead (and some veggies), then made our way (racing, etc..) back to the car. On getting in the car, Ethan started playing with the screen & it refused to work, sighting the keys needed to be in the car (which they were) - jokingly, I waved the keys at the screen, and then we realised a part was missing from the tag (the actual key was fine) & the piece of glass (plastic) Ethan had found earlier was the missing bit - so we went on a hut at night to find a small piece of clear plastic! had fun hunting, found it! and half the paper insert that was in it - we hunted for a while but never found the second piece. But it ended up making for a fun adventure.
Had a very late dinner after cooking the lasagna. Chatted with Mummy & Makayla for quite a while. & now very much ready for bed!
All-in-all, it was a great finish to our time skiing.
