Another early start (7:15 am)
Arrived in the mountain by 9 am in prep for Ethan's 9:30 am all-day lesson. When we went to catch the shuttle, we missed one by a few seconds, so we waited for the next, we were told they leave every 5 min. Turns out this is also incorrect & they wait for the bus to fill up, which took over 15 minutes- so again our attempts to arrive with plenty of time were thwarted! But we were only a few min late & fortunately, it wasn't an issue.
As Ethan had been on the ski lifts already with me the prior day he was able to start his lessons straight on the slopes. Saw him a couple of times, and he was doing well in his lessons. He ended up at Level 4.
I did a few runs on the long slope, then decided to explore further afield & wanted to find a café which is on the mountain that reviews really well.
The visibility was slightly better than yesterday, but still very poor in the morning (other than a few brief moments of sun & clearing cloud). But positively, it didn't rain (as it did yesterday & we got soaked), and it did clear briefly a few times in the middle of the day before clearing completely at the end of the day.
As there are no maps on the mountain (literally none!), I tried using the Mt Buller app to find my way around due to the lack of visibility & signage. This resulted in getting quite lost!
Eventually found the café I was looking for. Compared to the main village? it's amazing! Coffee in the village was $9.50 & only takeaway with nowhere to sit. However, the café I found near the top of the mountain has indoor steering & is warm. Great friendly service - and Coffee was $6.00. So a much better option (there is absolutely no signage to it, so I suspect it's not actually owned/involved with the Mt Buller management).
Did some more exploring of the mountain, getting lost some more (many of the way markers have faded/labels fallen off). So with low visibility, it's very easy to get lost (talking to another guy, he had just accidentally taken his daughter over an advanced slope also due to the lack of signage). I ended up at the Summit (unintentionally) at one stage. Eventually managed to sort of get my bearings.
In the afternoon the sky started to clear & it was fantastic actually being able to see! The café I had eventually found in the morning was very close to the runs I had been doing but hadn't been visible due to poor visibility. I had only just missed it when I was first looking & got lost.
After Ethan's lesson had finished, we did a few more runs - Ethan showed me how to jump & ski on one foot & do the harder runs! Unfortunately, the main lift was much busier & then they closed it very early for some unknown reason… So we did a short run and then left for the day.
Drove back to the accommodation, did some more washing (that we later took to the laundromat to dry)
Went to the shops (IGA) to pick up some dinner & snacks/light food for lunch tomorrow on the mountain (Ethan got lunch as part of his lessons the last 2 days).
Very glad we don't have to arrive anywhere by a specific time tomorrow! Early night tonight, both very tired.
