Hi, firstly, apolagies for not updating for a while (believe it or not it's hard to find the time!) So, where were we, it was Thursday morningm oh yes! Ouch a 6am pick up from our hostel (watching everyone stubbling in wishing I was where they were! :-)) Finally after about an hours drive to the port, a 2 hour ferry crossing and a 5 hours coach journey we arrive at Phukey Bus Station ( yes as u probably presumed I slept the majority of the journey! Initial thoughts were Bangkok with a beach..and after relaxing on the islands we weren't looking forward to the hussle but hey I remained open-minded! Jumped of the coach to be greeted by loads of guys offering to give us a ride to Patongm which was the main area to visit! So we bartard a little and set off, the driver culd speak very little English, but none of them do! Didn't feel completely at ease as the journey began to realise there was no signs of this being a taxi, no AC, the windows didn't unwind and to top it all off, his speedo didn't work! I can safely say this was the worse leg of the journey! After about 30 mins we arrive at a didngy hostel in Patong, he requested we stayed here, but we politely declined and set of to find a room! After about 10 minutes of wondering, he pulled up besdie us again, asking to take to us to another room, without a thought we refused and picked up the pace to loose this guy!! Ok so I muist have lost pounds, was o hot and we were shattered, we eventually found a hostel ran by a nice American guy and his Thai ladies (I'm sure he was a pimp!!) Nice clean room, with AC- nested, showered, changed and out!! We explored whole of Patong, we must have walked miles! Very busy, lots of bars resturants and stalls and people hassling you- I seriously thought Claire was going to punch someone if another person asked her if she wanted a taxi, suit or massage one more time! Hunger called, found a nice italian resturant, relaxed wined and dined then headed home for book club (how sad!!) and an early night to rise to catch the rays in the morning! :-)
9am up and hit the beach! Very hot, busy beach but nice, sunbathed and swan, snorkelling wasn't too good here! Then out of nowhere there was a downpour- great what now, had to resort to the bar! We then shopped around to get a good deal to book the remainder of our time in Thailand so booked our return ferry crossing over to Phi Phi for 3 nights then our 12 hour bus jounrey back to phuket all for about 20 pound- Bargain!! Not did we realise there was an alcohol ban starting over all mainland Thailand the day we headed for Phi Phi becasue of some some of voting going on- RESULT!! :-)
That night we decided to go 10 pin bowling ( believe it or not dining out does get a little monotomous after a while- I never thought i's say that!!) Great fun, althought the pins were on strings and Claire and I got our highest score ever, not that it was any easier of course!!
