Today we had a fun family day at Disney's Hollywood Studios. We set off early to get there by 8:45am (official opening time is 9:00am, but we'd heard it is best to get there up to half an hour before) and went straight in.
It was really cold this morning. 4 degrees celsius, which was a shock after the mild Tshirt weather we've had here so far. We gritted our teeth and made straight for the most popular rides so we could avoid the long lines when the Park gets busier later in the day. This proved to be a good strategy. We went on the Toy Story Ride, called Midway Mania, and got a Fast Pass to use later for a second go.
The Star Wars ride Star Tours was my favourite - because I had a starring role! The ride is made to be as though the passengers are all intergalactic tourists on a tour which accidentally gets involved in the war between Darth Vader and the rebel forces. They take a photo of a person at random and pretend that person is a rebel spy being sought by Vader - and it was me! The kids were so impressed.
We also took in a Disney Junior live show, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid (which was nice, but a little dated), the Muppet 3 D movie, and the Great Movie Ride (again, a little dated to me though the kids loved it).
There are plenty of gift shops, which we didn't even go into today - I could see the kids' eyes on stalks as we went past them. I'm guessing if we have any $US left at the end of our stay they will be spent there.
We had lunch at the Studio Catering Co which was very good and not as expensive as I'd feared.
The two smallest ones were crashing and burning by 2:30, so we left before the 3:00pm Parade, knowing we will be returning later in the month to see what we missed today (the Parade, The Tower of Terror and the Rock n Roller Coaster).
All in all a very enjoyable day.
Tomorrow: Busch Gardens
