Disembarkation Day from Port Canaveral. After an early breakfast and some fond farewells, we were off the boat by 8:00am......and at 9:00am it was established that Paul's bag had been accidentally taken by a hapless Brazillian tourist on her way to New York. Seriously.
So, a little irritated, we decided to take a trip to the Kennedy Space Center at nearby Cape Canaveral.
It turned out to be just the tonic we needed to turn our irritation into inspiration. Paul is a big Space Nerd from way back and Matthew enjoyed learning about the solar system last year at school, so this was particularly cool for them.
We chose to take the "past and future" tour which included a bus tour to NASA - which is still launching rockets, despite the finalization of the Space Shuttle program - where we saw the retired Orbiter of Space Shuttle Endeavor and we also saw the launch site from which every Apollo mission was launched (all the Moon missions).
Back at the Kennedy Space Centre we saw educational presentations and heaps of astronaut memorabilia, as well as a cool simulator (Joe was too small, so he and I waited in the gift shop), and an IMAX movie.
That doesn't really give enough of a description of how cool this place was. I think this was one of the highlights of our trip so far - well worth the visit.
As a bonus, the souvenir shops were, compared to Disney, very reasonably priced - which was fortunate when you need to pick up a few T Shirts because your luggage was misplaced!
