Well hello!
Sorry about the lack of updates recently apart from the fact we're having too much of a good time to go on the internet, we've only seen a couple of places which has net access anyway. Anyway, I'll give you a brief update of the escapades of Brett, Liane and Louise over the past week...
Well, I suppose I should really start with the van. We picked up our Wicked Camper Van last Monday from Melbourne and boy were we in for a treat! After being briefed on safety in the van such as 'if you're swerve for a dingo you're a dickhead' and 'emu, roo, you.. who will survive?' we met Bitsy, our 3 berth van. This is not just any old van mind you, oh no, we are very privileged to be driving a van with the village people painted on the side. haha, you might say, the village people? Yes, we do attract a lot of stares and yes people have laughed but a lot of people have come up to us too (in particular an old man yesterday who said he liked our motto painted on the back of the van 'Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder'). Hmmmmmmmmmm...
Anyway, so far the roads haven't been too bad. Liane and I are taking it in turns to drive and we're getting quite used to it. The only mishaps we've had have been Liane driving us to a car wash garage to get petrol, me driving up the kerb and trying to go down a one way street. It was the first day though...
We've been staying on campsites which have mostly been fine. The first night Liane and I were a little unprepared and woke up freezing during the night, but we now have Thomas The Tank Engine sleeping bags which are doing the trick! Some of the views from the sites have been amazing. In Mallacoota, Victoria, we parked up just by this lake and sunset was amazing. The sky is so clear at all of these places too- I've never seen so many stars before. My other favourite place has to be Wilsons Prom. We camped over the night there and say Kookaburras and Wombats roaming around just outside the van. And then, just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we opened the door in the morning to go to the showers to find a kangaroo bouncing around just in front of us which was amazing.
We've been to lots of other places too, Lakes Entrance, Eden, etc. We've been to a rainforest, been on walks, been to the beach, been up mountains - all in the space of a week.
We're starting to get out of the wilderness now, and yesterday went to Canberra. Now, I've had heard lots of stories about this place, mostly bad, and went there thinking that people had been exaggerating. How wrong I was. For a capital city I thought it was terrible. There's not really much of interest and I was quite dissapointed. We managed to salvage the day by visiting the Australian Parliament on Capital Hill, which has been one of the best things we have done so far. When we got there, the parliament was sitting for question time and we were allowed to go to the public viewing gallery and watch (not that I knew who the Prime Minister of Oz was!). It was really interesting to go in there but my god, their MPs, or members, were so funny - it was much more of a carnival atmosphere than than the question time at westminster, and that's saying something! We then did a little tour of the building and that my friends kind of brings us up to date. I've missed loads out but you tend to start forgetting what you've done after a while.
Anyway, hope everyone's ok
Louise xxxx
P.S. washing is a nightmare - yesterday Liane managed to dye all of my white clothes an interesting shade of grey with some socks. Wearing clothes for more than one day has never been a more attractive option!Â
