Road trip - day 4 - Tuesday
Planning on a day trip to Baden Baden.
Woke up early & messed around on soduko, iPad & magazine reading until 9am. Looks like the weather is good; very peaceful apart from the lorry deliveries to the supermarket across the valley!!
Drive to BB was lovely but a bit steep in places, forest scenery all the way
Has trouble parking; without a street map to understand where the places of interest are we ended up going through the 2km tunnel a couple of times. Ended up on the top of the 'city parking' - couldn't have been more centrally based!!
We went to the central pedestrianised square & headed towards the river & tourist information. This was housed in the most lovely ornate building; we had an ice cream in the sunny outdoor cafe out to one side.
With a street map now in hand we headed off to see the points of interest; the Casino, the Rathause, the thermal spa house, churches etc etc. Highlight of the visit was an electronic audio guided tour of the Roman baths under the later day spa baths. Very complete & informative.
On leaving we had a drink in cafe botte; totally fleeced!!! First they brought me a large water then shortchanged G 10 euros - must have seen us coming ;)
We made it out of BB without too much trouble & stopped at a roadside bar/cafe for a drink, belch & a view over an alpine meadow village.
Carried on to Bad Herrenalb, parked up after struggling with the notices on the parking meter machine. Bought a loaf of bread as standby for breakfast.
Found an Italian sounding restaurant with a pizza menu. 2 x vegetarian pizzas!!! Result!!!
Stopped off on the way back to the apartment to take piccies of the sunset over the forest .... trees, peaceful, birdsong, crickets, orange sunset. Could like Germany if I understood the language!!
Found an open supermarket, in fact the one on the opposite side of the valley to the Gite; there was 15 mins to go before closing so we nipped in for a look around. Will be going back for a better look! There was a whole section of non alcoholic beers for G to peruse!!!
