Road trip - day 7
It was with a little sadness that we left Monika & Herbert! We had exchanged emails before our departure rather than being able to have a conversation!! We left them a little gift of a plant in the kitchen as a token of our thanks for their hospitality.
Up at 8am; the earlier yet this week & on the road by 10am ..... breakfast, packed & Gite cleaned. The car boot is pretty full; did I pack too much??? Of course I did .... and there us a washing machine on the Pontarlier Gite!
Decided to stop at Triberg, the home of the cuckoo clock on the way to overnight accommodation in Freiburgh.
Today is Black Forest Gateaux day!!! Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte ..... hausemachte!! From cafe lilie in Triberg.
We debated the waterfall walk - at least I did! But gave in on the condition I could stop part way. I must say it was beautiful, I only made it part way, but G went further. Took loads of 'arty' photos of water, sun, water, greenery etc etc. There are red squirrels in the woods; we bought nuts (fusser) .... but didn't see any :(
We left Triberg, heading for Freiburg, around 4pm ish
The trip seemed really long, we arrived at the Bluhotel without any trouble using the sat nav even though Freiburg seems like a pretty big & busy city!!
We checked in & the lovely receptionist gave us lots of advice & directions about how to get into the old city centre. We debated .... go in the evening or for the market on Saturday am; or both!! In the end we decided to eat locally and go in early on Saturday. Good job .... It was beautiful weather when we arrived in Freiburg & by the time we went up the road to the sportsbar for a drink there was a thunderstorm brewing in the mountains & moving towards us. We decided to have a meal in the Italian under the hotel. Just got in before the rain started!! Meal choices were very varied & we both realised we could understand the menu .... there was a French translation!! We had tomato & mozzarella salad & prawn risotto for me & ricotta ravioli for G. Once again a lovely meal
Back to the hotel to make the most of the wifi before an early night!
