Road trip - day 11 - Tuesday
Very chilly & misty; we were actually in the clouds first thing with a temp of 6c rising to 11c later in the day
Headed out to explore the possibility of taking a train ride to Switzerland over the next few days. The lady at Pontarlier Gare didn't speak English but was very helpful; we asked about visiting Lausanne but knew after just a few minutes that we wouldn't be able to negotiate a conversation about options of going further afield. The end result was 2 return tickets on the TGV for Thursday, although the cost was 158 euros it seemed we had a bargain compared to the first options we had been shown on screen .... and we are travelling 1st class on the outward journey. Feels like we have booked an adventure!!!
The TGV departs from Frasne, the lady at the booking office had told us it was 20-30mins away so we decided to make sure we knew in advance where the parking was. Having had the car play up yesterday it was also an idea to give it a run; just to make sure! We headed off through a few small villages/towns & found it just as had been described to us.
On the way back we called in at a couple of shoe shops in the big commercial zone for G to find some open sandals. We ended up on Decathlon where we also discovered free wifi!!! Jackpot!!! G tried on a few pairs of shoes whilst I surfed. Temp on Lausanne on thus is forecast 13c with just a chance of rain!
We decided to continue into Pontarlier to see the town with the shops open. We found a bar with wifi; 2 internet hits in one afternoon. On leaving we found a tabac for postage stamps & a vegetarian cafe - food served thurs, fri, sat lunchtimes. We were eating back at the chalet so a bakers was required! Bread duly purchased it was back to the chalet for an early tea.
After a cup of tea, asparagus, bread cheese & salad, tarte citron (cassis cake for G) I read & G messed around with his camera
G decided to visit the observatory up the road for photo opportunities. As he left he pointed out that there was a white car parked in the drive. By myself I could hear noises & creaking; I was so afraid I went to sit out on the balcony ... when another car backed into the drive. A young man got out .... I asked what he was doing & he replied that he lived in an apartment in the garage!!! How surreal, I tried to ring the Gite owner & then penned an email but of course with no internet I couldn't send it. Hope they aren't mass murders we have in the garage lol!! Seriously, the email goes tomorrow & cottages4u are copied in!!
