Day 102- We arrived into Coff's at 1.30am and had to walk 30 minutes to the hostel so we were shattered to say the least. Nevertheless we woke at 10am feeling good so decided to hire a canoe. It was completely free which was great so off we went. There was a river across the road and it ran up by the botanical gardens and worked out it should take about 3 hours there and back. We were both excited and were raring to go. After wrestling the boat into the river of the unusually awkwardly shaped jetty we slowly paddled upstream with the current behind us. We seen some lovely wildlife particularly birds and lots of fish and was nice to get up close to the botanic gardens as well. Once at the top of the gardens we turned round and headed back downstream to the mouth of the ocean. We floated past a lovely restaurant that smelt amazing and went as far as we were advised to go before heading back. After we struggled to get the canoe out and get it across the busy road again we were starving and with it being Tuesday there was no other option but a Domino's pizza. We ordered our favourite-pepperoni, and even stretched as far as getting a garlic bread as well.We did some shopping while we waited and as we picked it up it started to rain. So we found a big building that happened to be a bank and ate it under the sheltered steps- classy! We walked the half an hour back once the rain had stopped and that night we just chilled out and Skyped home.
Day 103- The hostel was great for activities and hiring of water sports gear so we opted in to a hostel run paddle board session, again it was free. We walked to the beach and met the guy running it and picked a board up. We paddle boarded before on a lake on Fraser Island, it was quite easy then as the lake was placid. Here however the sea was less forgiving and put up more of a challenge. Once we got over the small waves though it was fine as we were inside of two piers. There was four of us in total and we paddled out as far as we dared before heading back. Once you are on and standing, the novelty of it wears of quite quick and we were finished within an hour. So the bloke took us onto the pier so we could jump off it. There was loads of people doing it and seemed okay from behind the railings. I climbed over the railings and onto the pole and then looked down and immediately thought it was a bad idea. However people were waiting behind me so I just jumped off. Now I thought I did well but the picture shows otherwise with my feet refusing to let go of the pole and it looking like I fell in. Eve on the other hand preferred to stay dry-good choice. After we all had a few jumps I decided to dive in (from a slightly lower level) and swim back to the shore. Eve thought I was mad but I love a good swim and only took about 20 minutes. Once back on dry land we walked along the break-wall to Muttonbird Island with another two people from the paddle board session. One was a policeman from Surrey so was interesting to speak about travelling from a different perspective than student bum! The Island is named so as it is home to thousands of Mutton birds however we never saw one as they were incubating their eggs. Typical! It was a nice walk regardless and gave beautiful views of the town. After dinner we were dropped off at the greyhound bus stop and it was over an hour late so lay on the grass and read our books. Once we finally arrived in Port Macquarie our hostel picked us up and it was lovely, two big houses joined together so it was quite a nice small hostel. We wandered down for a quick Macca's (McDonalds) ice cream and then hit the hay after a busy day.
