On Thursday I spent the morning exploring Edinburgh again. Stopped for lunch at a lovely little café over in the old part of town (with a very cute waiter with dreamy eyes & a gorgeous smile!). Then I went & further explored the Grass Market area, where every second or third shop is a vintage shop packed full of hidden gems if you're willing to search for long enough…Esther finished work early in the afternoon that day & Jess had the day off so we were all finally able to head out together in the afternoon to explore the local area near Burdiehouse Village.
We walked right through the middle of the wheat fields & it was just incredible to see the dark, stormy clouds rolling across the fields behind. We had some fun re-enacting the J'adore add in the wheat fields…minus the honey…& the hot guy (if you haven't seen the add feel free to ignore this sentence, it will make no sense! YouTube it!). The rest of the afternoon was a checklist of must-do countryside experiences…
- 1. We picked & ate wild raspberries off bushes right along the side of the path! Amazing! They were still pretty teeny tiny, but I just couldn't believe they were right there for the picking.
- 2. We saw hairy coos. Hairy coos, or hairy cows, as anyone who isn't Scottish would pronounce them, are really cute long-haired cows that are found in the Highlands of Scotland…or in a nearby field in Edinburgh.
- 3. We saw cute little wild bunny rabbits hopping across the grass…they were brown with perfectly white little tails that popped up when they hopped along. Actual cotton tails!
- 4. I got stung by stinging nettles, which is very, VERY unpleasant…at first it burns, like, REALLY burns, then it itches like crazy, & these little white bumps appear on your skin. Not pleasant, but hey, it's definitely a truly Scottish countryside experience.
- 5. We bought a bottle of wine from a very Scottish pub & sat outside in the evening drinking & chatting among the locals.
- 6. Oh, & we also explored an area where a giant tree had fallen over (like literally all the roots were sticking out horizontally…it was really strange, I have no idea how it actually fell over), & we climbed the tree.
So there you have it - wild raspberries, hairy coos, wild bunnies, nettles, wine, & tree climbing! Just your typical afternoon in the Scottish countryside :)
