Wednesday morning I was feeling relaxed & rejuvenated after my pottering the day before (nothing quite like a good potter :P hehe) & I went into the city with Esther a few hours before she was due to start work for the day. She took me to a gorgeous restaurant, called The Dome (fair but fancier than the Dome cafés in Perth :P) & we had Devonshire tea. Delightful! (For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing Devonshire tea it's tea & scones with Jam & cream - yum!). The place was beautiful decorated & there were fresh flowers everywhere that gave off the most incredible scent.
After I dropped Esther off at the bus station to go to work I found my way to a Starbucks café to have a chat with my frandily ones back home. Frandilies = friends, family, + randoms…every Wednesday night an assortment of randoms gather for dinner at my Mum's house & it's always a nice opportunity to jump online & chat to everyone at once. They passed me round the dinner table while they all tucked into chocolate pudding in front of me (gee, thanks guys) & it was so nice to see lots of friendly faces from home. They received the candy package I had sent from Sweden, although I think the chocolate was a little melted...pretty sure it will still taste amazing though! (A random aside, I had a soy latte at Starbucks & imagine my surprise to find that it was actually good! Wow!)
After skype chats I headed out to explore the city, wandering up & down the royal mile to see all the beautiful buildings in the old part of town. Of course, it was very slow wandering, frequently interrupted when I was distracted by cute, kitschy shops selling random, cute, kitschy things! I even found a shops entirely full of greeting cards & a whole stack of Edward Monkton cards (which I'm a huge fan of) that I hadn't seen before. Yes, I'm a strange being & I love greeting cards & can be amused for a very long time reading greeting cards in a card store…haha
Edinburgh has a really lovely feel to it & I was lucky enough to be there when the weather was great. When you walk through the centre of town you can hear the sound of bagpipes from the busker at the corner of Princes Gardens who is fully kitted up in traditional clothing, kilt & all. I also came across a busker who was inventively attempting to make his living my standing on his head, in a bucket, in the middle of the street, stock still for minutes on end (you kinda have to see the photo of this one…very odd…but it caught my attention so I guess that's what he's going for!). In the late afternoon I joined the locals lying on the grass enjoying the sunshine in Princes Gardens. If it weren't for all the rain most of the year round, I can really see how this would be a lovely place to live! :P
