Tuesday morning I took a stroll down to Main Street to find a Starbucks so I could access the internet & shoot off a few emails etc. Vancouver's apparently had a pretty lousy summer up until now - lots of rain, overcast days, the temperature not rising above 20 degrees - but now that I've arrived it's sunny & 23! How delightful! :)
JL has a nursing friend who lives nearby & has a lovely dog named Lucy who JL often walks, so we picked her up late morning & set out for what turned out to be a 3 hour walk! Lucy's owners have recently had a baby so Lucy hadn't been walked in a while & was jumping out of her skin with energy. She had absolutely no interest in pats, scratchies or making friends, she just wanted to chase her ball. Again and again and again…
We walked all around the Mount Pleasant area through several different parks, & Lucy decided to take a dip in a very grungy looking duck pond, emerging with her light golden fur turned a dark, muddy grey colour. She seemed very impressed with herself; JL not so much - she had to give her a bath in a fountain further along the way.
We made our way up to the top of a hill with a beautiful view over Vancouver, with the mountains rising up behind the city - reminds me why I love this place so much :) Finally we walked through the beautiful botanic gardens that were still fully in bloom late in the summer owing to the lack of heat & sunshine.
When we finally arrived back at JL's place, having done our very best to tire Lucy out (we were not entirely successful in that endeavor), we made some lunch & sat out in the back garden enjoying the glorious weather. After that JL pottered in the garden while I took a trip to one of my favourite consignment stores on Main Street to find something to bill Air Canada for ;) I picked up 3 gorgeous vintage dresses, each for a very decent price. It often takes a fair bit of sifting through when you go to these places, but if you can afford to spend a little bit of time searching, it's possible to find some absolute gems!
