This morning was possibly one of THE best mornings I've had in Whistler. I was so excited I couldn't sleep in and woke up well before my alarm like a kid on Christmas day! Because this morning…Liz took me dog sledding!! Because she works for Outdoor Adventures leading snow shoeing tours, she's allowed to try out each of the other services they offer and bring someone else along. So as a belated birthday pressie she took me along to go and play with a bunch of seriously gorgeous puppies!!
We caught the bus in early with Juzzy to stop by Blenz for hot drinks of the way, and waved to the Olympic mascots out doing promotional work in the early hours of the morning. Then we jumped in a van and drove for 20 minutes or so, north to the Soo Valley. When we got there we were introduced to our guide, Will, and our beautiful team of dogs for the morning. There was Kirby (from the "K") family, Will's own dog, Oprah, a super shy pup called Cosmo?? (from the space themed family), and my personal favourite, Tuba (from the musical instrument family). Will introduced us to each of the dogs then we got to help him get them into their harnesses and all set up with the sled.
Liz and I were tucked up nice and warm inside the sled and away we went! It was the perfect day for it - clear blue skies, sun out, not too cold, nice and slick on the ground so we could go super fast. We each got a chance to hop out and ride on the back of the sled for a while and the scenery along the way was just magnificent. When we got back to the base they let Liz & I loose…with the puppies!! There was a mother (???) with her two puppies named Hannah and Montana. Hannah was all white and Montana had beautiful tan and brown markings. Liz & I seriously considered dog-napping. No really, I was like OK…so if I just unzip my jacket and tuck Hannah inside and we run away really fast…haha we both love having dogs around so we had an absolute ball together playing with the pups! After we pried ourselves away from the dogs we jumped in the van and headed back to the village where I caught up with Hayley (one of the lovely ladies I worked with at the Roundhouse) for lunch at Moguls, sitting outside in the sunshine.
Last night Liz, Juz & I met up with a few of Liz's mates from Zip Trek at the Brew House for dinner and the weekly Wednesday quiz night. Our team (appropriately entitled Dora the Explorer - the named of Liz and co.'s beloved van that's making the trip to Alaska) was on fire!! I think we only got one or two questions wrong (thank you Mum & Dad for bringing me up listening to John Williamson and watching Disney movies, this is the kind of thing that comes in handy for random trivia nights!) BUT we were tied with a stupid group that gained bonus points for getting up on stage and singing a terrible song!! Oh the injustice! We had a finals rounds and I ding ding dinged my imaginary buzzer and we nearly had it in the bag, but just missed out…but we'll be back next week! Juzzy wondered out loud at we were strolling home whether they had in bingo halls in the area…haha
So yeah, it's been a pretty sweeeeeet 24 hours :D I smell like dog all over! Haha
