We got up early today and went to buy a new camera. Its 8.2 megapixels and so should be amazing but just seems a bit wick compared to the old one. We didn't get it for a bad price and the guy threw in a case and a memory card free which made it slightly better. Contemplating ´losing´it and getting the insurance money if it doesn't work out. We then wandered up to the national museum. This was pretty good as there was a big section on facism and modern art. We picked up a little guide thing that has photos of the exhibits in it. On sundays in the parc ejildo theres always loads of paintings displayed which are amazing and not too expensive. It's just a pity its so inpractical to get them home. Today we were classy and went to mcdonalds for lunch.. it tasted really different. We then got a taxi to our new hotel in the old town with the world´s most agressive taxi driver. He nearly ran over several wee boys and beeped his horn every second. In ecuador you beep your horn everytime you come to a turning, an intersection of any kind or when you want to let people know you aren't going to let them cross the road.
The new hotel is quite good, hot water which is a novelty when you have been having cold showers for several weeks. It almost seems too hot now. The hotel is designed to be very colonial, and its very pretentious. The guy at the front desk is an a*******.
We walked round the plazas in the old town today and went into the San Francisco church which as beautiful. We saw the end of a service which was a bit more lively than at home. The hills around the old town are a bit daunting, so steep you would have to hold on to the buildings for fear of falling backwards. The weather's also a bit unpredictable at the minute, we ate an entire meal outside in the pouring rain until we couldn't stick it anymore. There is a rather nice italian restaurant near the hotel where we have tried the pizza/lasagne and calzones (folded over pizza).
We're not too fond of the old town. There´s lovely architecture, the entire area is a world heritage sight, but the people stare at you in a kidney-robbing sort of way. There aren't really any tourists and so its all a bit.. raw or something. Really noisy aswell. Can´t really get any pictures of streets as its not safe to have your camera out but have taken a few landscape photos.
