Sukhothai was our next destination. We spent 2 nights there in a guesthouse that had more reptile residents that people.... our bathroom, which opened out onto a street, was home to a giant lizard who looked cute from afar but you didn't really want him joining you for a shower.
Anyway, wildlife aside, we hired some bikes on our second day there and went to the ruins in Sukhothai's old town. I had amazing 'Crocodile' bicycle with squidgy fat seat and upridge handlebars - comfort all the way for me. Grant however was concerned about not looking like a gay so chose a far more macho mountain bike... the result of which was walking like a cowboy for the rest of the evening due to hard as nails saddle. So, here's the cultural bit... Sukhothai used to to be the capital city of Thailand like a milion or something years ago and was all very impressive. Unfortunately we chose the hottest day we have had so far so nearly died from heat exhaustion, however they are quite amazing to see and stretch on for miles. There are bits of temples, big buddhas and little passageways to explore. There is also a museum with all the artifacts they found when the site was disovered which I thought was cool but Grant kind of glazed over and had a snooze on a bench.
Didn't get up to much else whilst in Sukhothai, except taking a hairy ride back to our guesthouse on a back to front tuk tuk thing which is made of half a motorbike... these guys will drive anything! Back in Bangkok as we speak but heading up to the River Kwai later today so will keep u all posted....
