The prospect of returning to Lima didn't really thrill us. We stopped here briefly on our way up to Mancora and we were far from impressed. The guide book didn't help, with quotes such as:
"The filthyness of the streets, strewn with dead donkeys, and the unevenness of the ground make it impossible to enjoy"
And even Charles Darwin had a word or two to say on the place:
"...in a wretched state of decay; the streets are nearly unpaved and heaps of filth are piled up in all directions."
Still we tried our best to enjoy Lima. They redeemed themselves by having some great restaurants and even a Pizza Street. Plus it was World Cup weekend so Aidan was more interested in watching the match than shopping with me in the Inca Markets.
We even went on a bus tour of Miraflores but unfortunately the commentry was ALL Spanish. I would like to say after being in South America for 7 weeks we understood every word. But we didn't so just looked bored for an hour.
The highlight of the weekend has to be Aidan's llama. The llama caught his eye whilst we were browsing the markets. He couldn't resist. It is huge. Even the security dog at the airport was scared of it. But Aidan is madly in love with it. I'm worried he cares more for the llama than he does for me! He spent a whole day packing up his precious llama so it would survive the journey home. Look at this photo, Aidan and his new toy.
Katie.
