Our last day in New York was nice and lazy.
We left the apartment around 11 in search of a deli serving hot pastrami sandwiches, as I HAD to have one before we left New York. Luckily we found one in the form of Zabar's on 80th st and Broadway. Since it was such a great day, We got our sandwiches to go and headed to Central Park to enjoy the sun. After a lazy lunch chilling by the Turtle Pond we took a meandering route back through the park to Kevin's apartment.
On the way back through the park we came across a film crew, and overheard that they were filming some scenes for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. It was obviously a pretty big production as there were numerous carts filled with recording equipment and lots of security staff throughout the park, not to mention tons of trucks and trailers sitting at the entrance. I thought I remembered the title and I've just looked it up - It was a book in 2005 and it looks like Tom Hanks is in the film.
We stopped off at a supermarket to pick up some food for our train journey, before packing our stuff, saying our last goodbyes to Kevin's dog Shiloh and catching the subway to Penn Station.
Once onboard the train we whiled away the afternoon and evening playing Backpacker (thanks Mark!), drinking beer and eating snacks. The seats on the train were huge and comfy, with loads of legroom, footrests, pop-up leg rests, reclining backs and power sockets. After eventually calling it a night we found it really easy to get a decent sleep in our seats and the 19 hour journey passed incredibly quickly.
