Day 3 in New York was another good one.
In the morning I took Kevin's bike out and rode the greenway cycle lane down the West side of Manhattan along the Hudson from 71st st, round through Battery Park, over the Brooklyn Bridge and back over the Manhattan Bridge then up the East side of Manhattan, taking a detour through midtown and up through central park. The cycle lanes along the river are great, although still under construction in places, and cycling was a great way to see the city, particularly the bridges, though you'd have to be fairly confident to ride in the downtown traffic!
Once I got back to the apartment and got Lucy out her bed we headed out for a walk through Central Park and saw some of the sights downtown that we hadn't seen yet, like the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building and Macy's department store.
We also had a seat in Bryant Park behind the library on 5th avenue and enjoyed a cupcake from Crumbs, which has to be one of the biggest and best cupcakes I've ever eaten.
After walking up through Times Square again, we met Kevin and Natasha for dinner at a Thai restaurant in Hell's Kitchen, which was amazing, if a little spicy! Don't ask me why we're eating so much Asian food when we're going to spend months in Asia, but the food in NY is great and you can get pretty much anything.
After dinner we walked back up to Kevin's apartment past the Lincoln Centre, which is really smart, and were entertained by a homeless guy shout-singing his way up the street in front of us. The highlight of the evening was when a clean-cut guy in business suit and coat coming the other way stopped and started belting out an incredible ad-lib solo straight into the homeless guy's face. We left the two dueting in the street and headed home for some beers and board games before bed.
