It's off to Ngorongoro Crater this morning- somewhere I've always wanted to visit. I think it's just the name, which I understand is a Masaai word for the bell their cows wear
Part of the 3200 sq mile Ngorongoro Conservation area 112 miles west of Arusha, the crater is the worlds largest unbroken caldera, 20km across and 600m deep & contains roughly 25,000 large animals.
We drive around the rim for a while passing a few Masaai settlements and then down into the crater itself.
The rest of the day is spent driving around and we spot Buffalo, a Civit Cat, Rhino, Hippo, Zebra, Wildebeest, Vultures (my fav), Elephant, Jackal, Hyena, Gazelle, Wathogs & Water Buck.
The highlight was seeing a Cheetah close to Landy and we did come across a small pride of lions but they were sleeping and a bit too far away for a good photo.
Back to Njake Camp where we walked outside for an hour before tea. It's a busy little settlement with ladies sat by the road selling bananas, sweet potatoes & maize. Peter & I were befriended by a young Tanzanian girl who was a real character & seemed to know eveyone!
A Kilimanjro beer after tea with Pter & Michael - this is the life!
