I'm on safari for 3 days with Arunga Expedition & Safaris.

Collected from the Outpost at 9 am by our driver Michael and the cook Osman, we have an old green Landrover Defender (very Daktari) and one more person to collect in Arusha.
It's Peter - a GP from Frederikshavn in Denmark who has just attempted Kilimanjaro & is heading to Zanzibar after this.
Good job he speaks excellent English and has a much better camera than mine with a telephoto lens.
Before leaving town we stock up on bottled water then it's off we go to Lake Manyara National Park ('the loviest I had seen in Africa' according to Ernest Hemingway) which is 90 minutes drive West of Arusha on decent tarmac roads.

On the way we pass a Masaai market - I don't think I've ever seen anything more colourful.
LMNP covers 127 sq miles (77 sq miles of which is water during the rainy season) and is famous for its birdlife (over 400 species) and the famous tree climbing lions - unfortunately we didn't see them today.
But we did 'bag' Giraffe, Elephant, Hippo, Warthogs, Zebra, Impala, Buffalo, Blue Monkeys & Mongoose. (Mongeese or Mongooses?)
This evening we drive to Njake Campsite & sit by the pool for a while while Osman makes our tea - a really nice seasoned steak.
