From Nelson we stopped over in a place called Greymouth where we went on a brewery tour and went the pub to watch the GBR rugby league team get beat, again, but did stay in one of the nicest hostel we've stayed in, it was called Neptunes and it's so clean and the beds are really comfy. Another early morning to get the newly named 'Tragic' bus over to Franz Josef, we were a little bored on the journey from Nelson to Greymouth so we borrowed the sign off the side of the bus and had a Blue Peter moment on the back seat, he he he he.
Having arrived in Franz at lunch time we were able to get half a day hiking on the glacier, due to the group sizes we went in one of the lower / special groups as no one else would move down. This meant that we had to go at a snails pace despite my best efforts to set a faster one, but we did learn a lot about the glacier. As a result of being in the 'special' group we didn't go as far up the glacier as the other groups, it was only 10m but at the time I was not a happy camper but have no one to blame but myself.
Later that evening the rain started and we discovered that our room leaked quite badly but it was too late to change rooms. We had planned to stay two nights in Franz as you can skydive there so if the weather was good we were thinking of doing it again but the weather was still pants so we couldn't do it but Emma and Bekkie did manage to do the Heli hike which looked really good but we couldn't afford to do it. In the afternoon we were just hanging round the hostel and decided to go quad biking as you can go in all weather, it was so much fun. Katherine sprayed me with mud and we got to go through a river and everything. I did at some point found myself at the back of the group where I got stuck in the mud but lived to tell the tail. We got hossed down by the hot instructor at the end as we all were really muddy, Katherine and I thought it was only fair that we hossed him down too, he he he he.
