Sailed to Bartolome for snorkelling and a walk to see Native wildlife, mostly birds, sealions and iguanas.
Took the Panga to the island for our first taste of wild Galapagos. The flora is not what we expected, very arid, bare trees, grass, not very green at all and very rocky. Lots of Sealions along the coast, including a baby just off the trail, curled up in the rocks, plus others showing off and posing.
Inland were lots of birds, mostly Blue Footed Boobies who walk alot like penguins, the name supposedly came from Bobo the clown. Lots of chicks and also frigate birds, who have large red sacks under their beaks to attract females. Quite weird but impressive, the brighter the sack the more likely they'll get some action. Abstinence supposedly helps to increase the colour.
Also here were alot of iguanas, land and marine. Land iguanas were small and black, but the marine iguanas were bright yellow and larger, not as big as I was hoping for though, maybe a metre long.
I went snorkelling and swam with Sealions, one young one enjoyed showing off and swam so close I could touch it, as he swam past he would look right in your eyes before doing some trick. Lot of nice fish, no sharks. Amanda went on a Panga ride around the coast.
After lunch we walked for a bit, didn't see much, went snorkelling, this time Amanda came. Saw some nice fish, but that particular trip was cut short when some White tip (not White pointer) sharks decided to swim under us. Amanda was not really pleased with this occurrence, so we went back to land, saw a couple of penguins. I think we saw 4 sharks, not dangerous and everyone else was hoping to see them, but not in Amanda's top 10,000,000 things to do list.
Later we walked up a lava field, looked like Mars, weird landscape. Good view from the top but 360 stairs to get there. Lots of brightly coloured crabs EVERYWHERE.
