Lauren and Nathan's Adventures
So, we're still playing catch up with our blogs, i'm writing this from Auckland NZ! Anyway, so after a good nights kip in Needles we were setting off in the car towards San Diego where we would be staying with an old friend of Ryans mum's Cathy and her husband JP. On the way, the girls suggested/demanded we stop over in Palm Springs, apparently the girls from 'the hills' go there for beach side pampering and spa's; just what we couldn't afford, but oh well! I'm not sure why we hadn't realised sooner but since Palm Springs was in the middle of the dessert, and so there wouldn't be a beach, duh! Baking in the 106 degree dessert heat we decided to grab a drink and play frisbee in the park, some better than others :)
All nice and sweaty we then set off to San Diego, arriving around 8ish at Cathy and JP's where we were treated to a lovely dinner of ratatouille and sausages + some beer and wine. What a change from mcdonalds and cheap watered down beers. Cathy and JP then took us out for a quick tour of the neighbourhood and treated us to ice cream, the place even did flavours for dogs! After quite a few more glasses of wine, we swayed to bed.
The next day Cathy and JP were kind enough to show us around some of the sights: Balboa park - it has a zoo, tennis courts, outdoor pool and even a veledrome! We then went to Loma point, a cliff area looking down onto the US and Mexico which was quite a sight. They then took us to Coronado Beach, spanish for 'the crowned one' where once again Cathy and JP were spoiling us, buying us each a cocktail at Hotel del Coronado (some like it hot was filmed here). I had a gorgous Mojito while Lauren had a more adventourous Pineapple Vodka, yum! Slight downer on the afternoon was that a seagull decided to poo on me, obviously everyone else found this great entertainment and supposedly this is ment to bring good luck! As if the day couldn't get better (minus falling poo), for tea we had these amazing organic steaks, green beans, walnuts and rice... plus lots of wine, hiccuuuupp!
We are so greatful to Cathy and JP, not only for the obvious fact they saved us alot of money but also for making us so welcome in their home and for there amazing cooking skills! Both Lauren and I thought San Diego was a great city, so close to the beach and Mexico but also bustling with city life! Hopefully we will get another chance to see it all again.
Hope everyone at home is well, other blogs to follow soon!
