Hi everyone, sorry for the delay of blogs but we've been having too much fun :) So, we got the 'cattlebus' from San Fran to Hollywood, not as bad as it sounds, suprisngly nice. We arrived around 11 at night, taking another blind trek to our hostel (Bannana Bungalow) taking the wrong turn three times, a new record! Our hostel was on hollywood blvrd, looking directly out to the 'Hollywood' sign- a must see on our travels. The hostel itself was also really good, it had motel feel to it as well as a ping pong and a fussball table. We were also really lucky with the ppl in our dorm, a lad called Tom and 2 girls Kerry and Laura from Manc uni, small world.
As we arrived quite late on our first night, we headed over to the 7/11 to grab some dollar a slice pizza and a few beers, before getting to bed. The next morning, we were up and out in search of the Chinese theatre, which for those who don't know is we're famous people such as Will Smith, Marylnn Monroe and George Clooney have their handprints outlined in the pavement. Well, once again we took an accidental detour, a 30 minute walk untill we seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. A bus ride back and we were at the theatre, although Lauren and I were a little let down by the size and lack of spectacualr surroundings that we had expected. Side note: my hands are the exact same size as Arnold Schwarzenegger's, see photo for proof.
Surrounding the theatre were loads of men and women dressed as celebs or film characters such as Gandolf, Catwoman and Marylnn Monroe who posed for photos in exchange for tips: a pretty easy way to make some good dosh by the looks of it. Being to tight to tip, I just watched from afar. The real highlight of the theatre were the freebies we recieved from some chinese airlines company outside, where we got some kind of ice tea and some shrimp..... untill we realised it was raw! I thought id give it a go, but as i bit into it I realised Id have to spit it out, but not before the airlines grabbed me for a photo to show how much I 'liked' their food.....yuk! Lauren was killing herself laughing at my attempts to show joy for the cameras.
The next day we attempted a picninc/walk at the griffith obsevatory, but after 45 minutes walking we gave up on our climb and settled for a spot that we could look onto the sunsent behind the hollywood sign. This was perfect untill a swarm of wasps decided to join the party and force Lauren and I home. That night we headed out with Laura, Kerry and Tom to a beach themed bar we sampled earlier. It was a really good night, more so for Lauren and Kerry who took advantage of the free monkey nuts, taking home a handbag full, dweebs!
On our final day we had time to kill untill our shuttle took us to vegas at 4pm, so we had a final walk around Hollywood Blvd, Farmers market and sunbathed in the tikki themed hostel garden. Weather has improved greatly compared to the East coast so at last we are seeing freckles.
Overall, we enjoyed Hollywood though found it very difficult without a car or any famous buddies to show us the sights.
Hope everyone is well, and enjoying the heatwave.. will blog soon, love Lauren and Nathan :) xxx
