it all begins with a slightly strange man collecting us from the hostel in our shuttle bus who asked us which airline we were flying with. when we told him american airlines he laughed and said are you sure your flights not cancelled becuase they're having a lot of problems! we thought he was just trying to scare 2 innocent girls from england until we got there and out 16.10 scheduled flight to LA was in fact CANCELLED. great so got in the queue at the most un helpful airport with the most un helpful staff and waited an hour until we got to speak to another strange lady with an odd hair-do and funny lips! she managed to get us on to an earlier flight to los angeles which would get us there in tome for our connection to auckland which we would have missed had we got on a later one. so we said goodbye to our bags and went through and extra secure electronic sniffer dog and went up to the departure gate. when we looked at the screen there it turned out we were only on the standby list.. i.e. you only get on if there is space/someone else misses it. the lady who checked us in hadnt actually told us this was the case so when the gate closed and finished boarding and we were still sitting waiting to be called........it wasnt till the plane actually left that were were told the plane was full so we'd be transferred to the 6.50 flight to LA> yes that would mean that we'd be too late the other 2 connections. great.
plan of action- try and find out waht we were supposed to do and what would happen with our luggage. at this point 2 women managed to book us on to a direct flight from san francisco to Auckland with Air New Zealand that evening which would arrive into auckland in time for us to meet up with the original flight we were supposed to get from there to christchurch and therefore meet up with our luggage. Little did we know that when we arrived in auckland waiting for our luggage at the carousel ,that our bags were still in Los Angeles!
so after meeting up with our chirstchurch hosts and spending 2 days here with one set of clothes, a pack of new underware and a toothbrush we are still waiting...
had a nice couple of days here though, the weather has been lovely and sunny... we went into chirstchurch yesterday to explore, get some information about the camper and other activities. then had a nice starbucks and slice of chocolate cake, and managed to laugh at the fact we have no clothes!!
today we went around the coast to a place called sumner beach, a nice little seaside town and spent some time there...then came back in to chirstchurch and booked our 'jucy crib' camper for monday afternoon, with the hope that our clothes should arrive this evening or in the morning!
