Friday ay we left around 11:30ish to go to Oxapampa. We grabbed a taxi and off we went. "Great!" We thought, "we will be there in 1 hr!" Little did we know, that at 11am that morning, there had been a huge mudslide across the highway. It was too dangerous to cross until some of the men came and cleared the mud and boulders out of the way. So there we sat in a huge line of cars, waiting for them to give the ok for us to cross. Some of us took a nap, some of us watched the excavation, and others played connect-the-dots with the mosquito bites on my legs (ahem, Jordan and Elisa). But all in all, it was a good experience and we survived. :)
In Oxapampa, the sister workers have a batch on the second story of one of the friends' house. Oxapampa is a small town, and there are only 2 professing people there - a lady and her daughter. They have quite a few contacts that have been coming to the meetings so we hope that they will continue to receive understanding, and make the number of friends in Oxapampa go up! :)
Friday night we had a study/gospel meeting in the homes of one of the contacts, Señorita Raida. Her mother professed, but isn't living anymore. It seems like Señorita Raida really didn't have an interest in the meetings, but I don't know all the details. Anyway, she is taking a real interest now and Sue said she had attended every meeting they have had.
Saturday was nice, we got to sleep in a little. Jordan fixed us breakfast there at the batch, and we got to eat one of the fresh pineapples we were given in Pichanaki! We ate lunch with Señorita Raida then took a mototaxi back so we wouldn't get soaked by the rain! Dinner was fabulous. Veronica made us soup, and we picked up some Pollo a la Brasa. Yum!
Sunday was not very enjoyable for me, but I think for others it was very special. I think they had a sunday morning meeting and then a gospel meeting later at 5pm. Mine wasn't too exciting. I woke up with a nasty nasty head cold, and I had a awful sore throat. Lovely, just in time to go to Chile. So I stayed in bed the whole day, sleeping off and on, until our night bus left for Lima at 7:30pm.
Jordan, Elisa, Veronica, and I were all traveling together to Lima. Jordan's brother flew in Tuesday, Elisa and I's flight left on Monday, and Vero's sister was expecting a baby on Wed! So we said our goodbyes to Sue and off we went. 10 long hours later, we arrived in Lima. A taxi took us to Vero's sister's house ( about 6:30am) and we got to take a nap before Vero had to take Elisa and I to the airport for our flight to Santiago.
It was sad to have to say goodbye to all the friends and workers we had met in Peru, but we were looking forward to meeting more on Chile.
Whoops, I guess this got kind of long. More later.
