So we stayed in Santa Ana for a few days. One of the days we went up to some of the friends' house in the jungle of Peru. It was about 1.5 hrs there, by the time we caught a taxi and all.
We finally found a mototaxi who was willing to go all the way there, but we weren't sure if the mototaxi could make it up the mountains! Off we go, 6 people all crammed in this little buggy. Got there in time for a fabulous lunch. This young couple have a 4- year old son named Oberdan. He is so sweet, he'll talk your ear off if you let him! Got to visit with them a little, then the man showed us some of the things they were growing, like lemons, oranges, papaya, bananas, coffee, and more. The oranges he picked for us right off the tree were so good!
So we left their house around 4:30pm and started hiking down the trail to the main road. Since no taxis came past where we were at, we had to walk until one drove past. After walking for about 15 mins down the main road, we came across 6 farmers picking pineapples and putting them in a great big truck to take to town and sell. They gave us 4 fresh pineapples! Maybe I'll be able to figure out how to upload the video..sometime. Anyway, they finally moved their truck a little so we could squeeze past and we were off again. Lots of farmers take their crops to town to sell them, and for cheap they will give you a ride down too. Along comes a truck full of oranges, but they didn't have room. The taxi that came next didn't want more passengers. But finally. A farmer with bags of coffee beans in the bed of his trick agreed to let us ride down with some other Peruvians he was giving a ride to. So off we go, down a bumpy dirt road riding on coffee bean bags. Once back in town, we were ready for some dinner and a nice cold shower.
We planned to go to Oxapampa the next day (Friday) to Sue's field and stay there for the remainder of our time in Peru.
